ka'ak sellers in the old souk (market) of Tripoli

ka'ak...one of the reasons I went walking around Boulevard Lake this morning with my friend, Amina, even though the skies were threatening rain. And it did rain hard, but we took shelter under some trees along the way. I ate too many ka'ak and sweet goods of all sorts while I was in Lebanon, which means now it is time to pay the piper by burning more calories than eating them.

Yum, those do look delicious! I, too, ate too many good things when in the UK and especially in Paris. But I was surprised I lost a few pounds, thanks to all the miles of walking every day.

Looking forward to many more posts and photos about your holiday. This was not your first to the Middle East, I think?

oh we walked too but there is no chance in Lebanon of losing pounds unless one was ruthless and loves to say no; the most one can expect, I think, is just to maintain one's weight amidst all the great food and social eating!

I hope to post more photos and commentary, although frankly, it's processing all that I have seen and experienced, especially as one returns to one's usual social context and geography, that causes ...silences.

This was my first trip as through the years there were either wars, bombings and danger, or on my side, pregnancies, young children and then finances and then graduate work and then work that gets in the way for summer "holidays". Even my trip was a working holiday as I taught a university course while I was there, for Lakehead U.
