escarpment side of the cuesta. Beyond the tree there is a sudden

drop off

facing North

It is not wise to get too close to the edge.

There are no railings

no enclosed viewing platforms or boardwalks

but there are steps made by Earth that lead you

to where the wind whistles past your ears

because now you are facing east, towards Lake Superior.

There are interesting maps at your feet, some look like Lake Superior

or something mapped from space

coloured by lichens

and scattered with years and years of broken beer bottles

and surprise! the outline of a rabbit

Rocks seem to speak to us both!
we have amazing rocks around here; no matter which direction you go. Perhaps it is the permanence of stone that speaks in such times of turbulent, devastating, unstoppable environmental and social change.
